RCMP have laid murder charges following a death on the Ahtahkakoop First Nation on Wednesday.
Dakota Hilliard John Knife faces a first-degree murder charge in connection to the death of Tyrone Jacob Knife.
Shellbrook RCMP responded to a complaint of an injured man at the Ahtakakoop First Nation on Wednesday just before 2 a.m. Police found Tyrone Knife suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. While being transported from the scene by EMS for further transport via STARS, the 21-year-old was pronounced dead.
Nineteen-year-old Dakota Knife was arrested by Shellbrook RCMP at a nearby residence on unrelated matters. Further investigation identified Dakota Knife as a suspect in the death of Tyrone Knife. RCMP say the suspect and deceased are related to each other.
The investigation for the case is ongoing and an autopsy will take place at Saskatoon City Hospital on Friday, Sept. 4.
Knife made his first appearance in Prince Albert Provincial Court on Sept 3. His next appearance will be on October 1, at 10 a.m. in Prince Albert Provincial Court.
