For the first time, Regina has a sense of how many people there are without a place to call home.
The first-ever homeless count was done on May 13, 2015. The Point-In-Time Count of Homelessness is a research tool used to get a sense of shelter use in the city and street homelessness.
More than 150 volunteers and 34 organizations helped take part in the count.
While a street count is not precise, it gives a snapshot of how many people are homeless in Regina, and also allows groups to examine how the population changes over time.
A full report will be released this fall, with the data used for future funding and programming decisions.
