Ringing in the New Year, unfortunately means an extra hit to the pocket books for residents in 2020.
A number of increases came into effect today in Saskatoon.
Taxes
Recycling
Rolling out your blue bin is going up to $7.38 per month in 2020, while multi-unit residents will see their rate increase to $3.71 per month.
There are fewer items you can throw in your blue bin in 2020. As January 1st, black plastics (takeout containers, disposable and coffee cup lids) and poly-coats (paper coffee and beverage cups) are now banned.
Green Cart subscribers who renew before May 1 will pay $65/year (from $55/year); renewals paid after April 30 will be $85/year (from $75/year).
Utilities
Saskatoon Light and Power customers will see a rate increase of 2.4 per cent in 2020. The separate carbon tax charge for residential customers will increase to 0.63¢/kWh from the 0.34¢/kWh
Water and wastewater bills will increase by 4.1 per cent.
Moving Around
In 2020, parking rates and parking ticket fines will not change. However, impound check-in fees will go from $50 to $65, while daily storage fees will increase from $15 to $17.
All transit route fares remain the same in 2020.

Cats:
Non-Spayed/neutered $40.00 ($4.00 increase)
Dogs:
Spayed/Neutered: $30.00 ($1.00 increase)
Non-Spayed/Neutered: $60.00 ($2.00 increase)
Juvenile (under 1 year): $30.00 ($1.00 increase)
Building and Plumbing Permits
There are various rate and fee changes effective January 1, 2020 for both building and plumbing permits.
Recreation
There are no rate changes in 2020 for the Gordon Howe Campground, leisure centres, indoor rinks or golf courses. However, riding the ferris wheel or train at Nutrien Playland will cost more.
Single ride tickets increase by $0.25 to $2.25, while Play Packs increase by $2.50 to $22.50.
