Canada’s military says soldiers killed and injured while training were caught up in sudden windstorm that overwhelmed them in flames at unbelievable speed.
Maj. Gen Wade Rutland says the fire had been burning for a while, but it was considered far enough away and contained that training could continue.
He says when the storm kicked up, the flames moved a kilometre in about 30 seconds and overwhelmed the soldiers.
Rutland says they are not sure how the fire started and he says it could be weeks before they determine it.
The four dead have been identified as soldiers from B.C, Alberta and Saskatchewan. They are: Sgt. Morgan Wong, Pvt. Shaun Farrell, Pvt. Aida Goulding and Pvt. Hayden Lykkemark.
