8:30 – Two new temporary complex needs shelters are opening up in Regina and Saskatoon “in the coming days,” according to the Government of Saskatchewan. The shelters take a bit of a different approach to intake and who can use the services. Saskatchewan Minister of Mental Health and Addictions, Seniors and Rural and Remote Health, Tim McLeod, joins Evan to share more about these shelters.
9:00 – Water in Regina can take on a less-pleasant smell and taste in occasion, during the summertime. Residents notice the change each year. Some have traced it back to blue-green algae affecting the Regina water supply, which comes from the Buffalo Pound Water Treatment Plant. Ryan Johnson, president and CEO of Buffalo Pound Water, joins Evan to dive into the plant’s upgrade, which is underway.
9:30 – Much of Jasper has been lost to Alberta wildfires in the past few days. Canadian historian, Craig Baird, joins Evan to reflect on the history of the town and some of what has been destroyed.
10:00 – Regina City Council has been discussing and considering the renaming of Dewdney Avenue. While many fear this is a way of rewriting history, some see it as a chance to forge a new future. Joely BigEagle, Indigenous artist and activist in Saskatchewan, joins Evan to give a different perspective on the issue.
