Saskatchewan RCMP say a man armed with a machete threatened a number of people on the James Smith Cree Nation, including his local community’s security officers.
The incident happened Sunday morning.
When officers arrived, the suspect was found outside a house and told he was under arrest. He didn’t comply and responded by allegedly assaulting one of the officers, causing minor injuries.
Officers then deployed a conducted energy weapon and the man was safely taken into custody without injury.
A 51-year-old man from the James Smith Cree Nation is facing a number of charges, including assault with a weapon, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, assault on a police officer, and uttering threats.
He’s also facing five counts of failing to comply with a release order condition.
