8:30 – According to Premier Scott Moe, “Saskatchewan needs to be a nation within a nation.” Moe shared that message on Twitter Tuesday, promising to push back against federal policies that are detrimental to our province. Political scientist Jim Farney says Saskatchewan has been pushing for greater autonomy for years, but the “nation within a nation” comment is new. According to Farney, autonomy can become a double-edged sword, as provincial governments could end up shouldering the costs one borne by federal programs, and in some cases see worse performance. Farney joins Gormley to share his thoughts on the premier’s comments, and whether ramping up the rhetoric around autonomy was a wise move.

10:00 – Last month, the SHA presented COVID models showing five different scenarios, with their models showing a big spike in ICU admissions unless vaccine boosters were administered and “mixing reduction” measures enacted. The scenarios that continued current behaviors displayed an increase in ICU admissions, but that hasn’t come to pass. In fact, our ICU rates are down significantly from the time those models were first presented. John goes over the modeling data and shares his thoughts on why the models have never managed to reflect the reality of COVID in Saskatchewan.

Cook joins Gormley to discuss the lasting importance of the poppy as a symbol of Canada’s strength, courage, and resilience.
