8:30 – Canada’s Conservative Opposition is calling on the Trudeau government to suspend the mandatory quarantines for returning air travelers. Currently, the rules require any Canadian returning home by air to pay for their own multi-day stay in a government-approved hotel until they can be tested for COVID-19. There are at least two lawsuits claiming the measures violate the Charter rights of air travelers, and a recent report of a sexual assault in Montreal at one federal facility has added more fuel to the protests. Michelle Rempel Garner is the Conservative health critic, and she joins Gormley to tell us why she wants the policy suspended.
