8:30 – With vaccinations picking up speed in Canada and around the world, it’s got us wondering what the end of the COVID-19 pandemic will look like, and how we’ll know when we start making real progress at stopping the virus. John is joined by Epidemiologist Cynthia Carr to tell us more about herd immunity through vaccination and what metrics she’s watching as we start to make real progress in our fight against COVID.
LIVE: Cynthia Carr, Epidemiologist and Principal Consultant with EPI Research Inc.
9:00 – The Hour of the Big Stories… Open Session
10:00 – Heritage Minister Steven Guilbeault is planning to introduce legislation early this year that will regulate social media platforms in order to “protect Canadians online” by promoting “a safer and more inclusive online environment.” Toronto Sun Columnist Lorrie Goldstein joins Gormley to tell us why he says Canadians should “be very afraid” of the coming legislation. While social media can definitely be a toxic swamp of hatred, bullying, and false information, do we really need the federal government to keep us safe on the Internet? Would this legislation spell the end of free speech online for Canadians? Call 1-877-332-8255 and let us know what you think!
LIVE: Lorrie Goldstein, Toronto Sun columnist and editor emeritus.
11:00 – According to the latest survey from Mental Health Research Canada, Canadians are reporting their highest levels of anxiety (23%) and depression (15%) above the levels at the peak of COVID’s first wave, and social isolation and working from home are having more of a negative impact of mental health. David Dozois, a psychology professor at Western University who helped design the survey, joins Gormley to discuss mental health and the pandemic. Are you doing anything differently in your life specifically to improve your mental health? Call 1-877-332-8255 and let us know what it is!
LIVE: Dr. David Dozois (“doze-WUHH”), MHRC’s Board Member, Psychology Prof. and Director of the Clinical Psychology Graduate Program at Western University.
