9:30 – Premier Scott Moe met with Prime Minister Justin Trudeau in Ottawa yesterday, and Moe was disappointed with the lack of action. Moe said he wanted to hear what Trudeau would do differently to support Saskatchewan and its industries, but only “heard more of the same” from Trudeau. In the wake of the meeting Moe said Saskatchewan might seek more autonomy from Ottawa, echoing Alberta Premier Jason Kenney, who has proposed a provincial police force and a provincial pension plan. Moe joins Gormley to discuss his meeting with Trudeau and how the province will react.

10:00 – Experts are sounding the alarm over antimicrobial resistant bacteria, commonly known as “superbugs.” A report commissioned by the Public Health Agency of Canada warned that 40 per cent of bacterial infections will be resistant to treatment by 2050, and by that time the superbugs may have killed nearly half a million Canadians. The bugs develop when bacteria, viruses and fungi evolve to resist drugs, and unnecessary use of antimicrobials by humans can speed up the process. To help discuss these superbugs and what we can do to prevent their spread, John is joined by Dr. Joseph Blondeau, Clinical Microbiologist and Head of Clinical Microbiology at RUH and U of S.

12:00 – From Christian fundamentalists to Islamic jihadists, religious groups have been responsible for horrific acts of terrorism and violence in recent decades. But how do individuals with such deeply-held religious beliefs justify such terrible actions? In his new book “When Religion Kills: How Extremists Justify Violence Through Faith,” former CSIS analyst Phil Gurski argues that extremists manipulate the language and symbols of their faith to motive themselves and others to commit atrocities in the name of the divine. Gurski joins Gormley now to discuss religiously-motivated violence, and how religious texts are twisted into the service of evil men.
