8:30 – An RCMP officer was wounded in a shooting near Turtleford Tuesday morning. The incident started when officers received reports of a dangerous driver near the town. As two officers approached the suspect vehicle, one was shot. Officers returned fire, and both the officer and a suspect were hospitalized for their injuries. The officer’s injuries were described as serious but not life-threatening, but Assistant Commissioner Mark Fisher, the RCMP’s commanding officer in Saskatchewan, says it hits home how quickly a situation can become dangerous. CJME’s Lisa Schick was Fisher’s press conference yesterday, and she joins John to tell us what we know so far.

9:00 – The Hour of the Big Stories… Open Session
10:00 – Chris Tyreman, a resident of Radisson, says a small group on the town’s council have stripped the mayor of all her powers and driven the town into debt with excessive spending. He says council is currently seeking to buy an empty building in town despite being near bankruptcy, and the town’s water plant is in need of major repair. He says council has even sanctioned Mayor Leona Bennett, forbidding her from speaking to ratepayers about council matters and not even allowing her to have a key to the town office (which the mayor confirmed). After a council member resigned over similar concerns in December, Tyreman says he and other residents reached out to higher levels of government for help, including numerous ombudsman complaints and a petition he presented to his local MP, but have had no results so far. Now he’s turning to the media to try and shine a light on what he views as some very shady practices by the local council. Tyreman joins John now to discuss the issues and what can be done.

12:00 – A group of Calgary women are on a mission to get more women interested and involved in politics. Canada Powered By Women has commissioned research which shows that only a third of women (28%) feel fully informed on major political issues, and they’re hoping to help close that gap and ensure women are engaged in political issues. They’re holding a free event tomorrow at the Wascana Country Club in Regina, and are encouraging everyone to attend as they outline their goals and present their research in an effort to make sure women are just as engaged in politics as their male counterparts. Dr. Lucy Miller is the lead organizer for Canada Powered by Women, and she joins John now to discuss the group and their work.
