8:30 – The re-trial of two Saskatchewan lovers accused of conspiring to murder their spouses went a lot differently the second time around. Curtis Vey and Angela Nicholson were convicted of conspiracy to commit murder in 2016 in a case largely hinging on a recording made by Bridget Vey of a 2013 conversation between Vey and Nicholson. On the recording, the two lovers discussed a plan to kill their spouses, but both said they didn’t plan to follow through. They were convicted in 2016 and sentenced to three years each, but a 2018 Saskatchewan Court of Appeals decision overturned the first trial and ordered a do-over. Yesterday they were found not guilty after a judge ruled the recording was not admissible as evidence. Nigel Maxwell, senior reporter for paNOW and 900 CKBI, was in the courtroom Monday. He joins Drew now to discuss the case.
