The deal is expected to close this year or 2020, after which WestJet will operate as a privately-held company. 11:00 – An independent comedy film about Canada’s oil sector is playing this week in Saskatoon. “Circle of Steel,” directed by Calgary-based filmmaker Gillian McKercher, is described as a “black comedy” about the oil industry. The film is playing at the Roxy Theatre in Saskatoon until Thursday, and McKercher joins John now to discuss the project.

12:00 – Hundreds of Canadians are set to receive postcards commemorating the Canadian troops who died during the first five days of the D-Day campaign in 1944. With the 75th anniversary of the battle coming up on June 6, the Juno Beach Centre Association is undertaking a special commemoration project by mailing postcards to the addresses of the deceased soldiers, regardless of who is living there now. The messages will contain biographical details, the soldier’s rank and unit, and details about their death. Mike Bechthold, executive director of the Juno Beach Centre Assocation, joins John now to discuss the project.
