8:30 – The CFL Players Association took a vote this week on whether to strike, if needed. The players were overwhelmingly in favour, with 97.3% voting “yes.” The CFL has decided to delay negotiations until April 29, and in response the CFLPA’s bargaining committee instructed players not to arrange travel for training camp, and said they won’t work past May 18 if no deal is reached. Will we see a strike in the CFL? John is joined by Marc-Olivier Brouillette, CFLPA Player Representative for the Saskatchewan Roughriders.

11:00 – Could Canada be hit with a “plastic tax”? A recent report from Environment Canada, titled “Economic Study of the Canadian Plastics Industry, Markets and Waste,” floats the idea of a tax or fee on “virgin resins” used to make new plastic products, in order to incentivize the use of recycled plastics among manufacturers. The report notes that such a tax could lead to increased prices for consumers, and might be difficult to adjust due to volatile oil prices. The Canadian Taxpayers Federation is suggesting such a tax could cost consumers billions, and is fighting against it “before it hits taxpayers in the wallet.” We’ll hear both sides of the argument now, as John moderates a panel featuring Aaron Wudrick, Federal Director of the Canadian Taxpayers Federation, and Adrian Midwood, executive director of Plastic Oceans Canada.
