Young family wins Hospitals of Regina Home Lottery
It's a dream come true for the young family who won the million dollar grand prize house in the Hospitals of Regina Home Lottery.
Holly and Ryan Markwart toured their grand prize home on Wednesday morning. Their two kids - Mya age six and Adrian age three have picked out their rooms already.
Holly described coming home to hear the news that they were winners in the annual fundraising lottery.
"I didn't believe it - I had just walked in the door and my husband and the kids knew because they had just watched the draw on TV," Markwart said. "They were jumping up and down saying we won the house."
Markwart says she and her husband have bought the occasional lottery ticket and they started buying tickets for the Hospital Home Lottery a few years ago.
"At least if you don't win you know the money is going to a really great cause," she explained.
For the family of four the grand prize home couldn't have come at a better time. Markwart said like many families their age, they have been dealing with what seems like a never-ending round of renovations in their current home.
"We have been trying to get things done so that we could upgrade to a bigger home and provide a better home for our children and this is just unbelievable. It's truly going to change our lives," she said.
The $1.6 million raised from this lottery will go towards buying diagnostic equipment for labs in Regina's hospitals.
