Weyburn man sentenced to jail for assaulting toddler

Thirty-three-year-old Andrew Harper was sentenced to two years less a day Tuesday afternoon in Weyburn Court.
A joint submission for sentencing was submitted by both Harper's defence lawyer and the Crown prosecutor .
Harper must not possess any firearms for 10 years and must provide bodily fluid samples.
Harper pleaded guilty to assaulting a toddler in Weyburn last October. He was taking care of his girlfriend's three-year-old son when the assault happened, resulting in the little boy being hospitalized in critical condition and in need of emergency surgery.
His injuries included blunt-force trauma to the head.
Harper will be released in 13 months and 20 days due to time served.
