Weekend fires cause damage and danger
Two fires involving three buildings kept fire crews busy.
Around 5 p.m. Saturday, fire crews responded to a fire that was burning the back corner of a house on Birch Crescent. It had also begun burning the siding and eaves of the neighbour's house.
A small explosion forced crews outside of the first home.
They had to use an aerial apparatus to fight the blaze until it was safe to go back inside and fight any flare-ups.
Luckily, nobody was at home at the time of the fire and people were able to leave the second home before crews arrived on scene.
The fire is still under investigation but damage is estimated at $600,000.
Another fire early Sunday morning has caused an estimated $1.5 million in damages.
Fire crews were called around 12:30 a.m to the west side of the city.
They arrived on Avenue E to find a building that houses four businesses was on fire.
Flames burned through the roof and crews were forced to fight the fire from outside the building to avoid danger.
The fire only lasted an hour but crews stayed on the scene to fight flare-ups and to ensure safety.
