The six hour power outage that left more than 10,000 residents in the dark on Sunday was caused by a number of weather elements, a SaskPower crew member said.
“The salt contaminates our insulators then you get that light rain which doesn’t wash it clean,” Jamie Soanes said, referring to the pole that caught fire Sunday morning.
He said the fire, which happened on Highway 7 between 11th Street and Highway 60, was quickly contained and did not spread to the surrounding fields or poles.
He said crew members are working quickly to repair the damage, and residents in the west end and beyond can expect to have their power returned by 6 p.m.
Residents affected by the Saskatoon Light and Power outage are also reported to have their power returned.
