The wind blew people around, but it did not blow them away from the Saskatoon Police Services community barbecue Wednesday.

"We will stick around, hopefully. We might have to anchor ourselves," said Terry Laverty.

He was exploring the vehicles and displays with his two-year-old son Dexter.

Dexter was especially excited about one thing.

"The cookies!" he said when asked about his favourite part of the day.

They were also happy to see the demonstration from the K-9 Unit.

"I saw the dogs. I (wanted) to hug them," said Dexter.

The dogs did not appear hug-able as they demonstrated how they are used in the force, but after pulling an officer down the demonstrator assured that the dog was like a part of his family.

There were also vehicle displays, demonstrations from the Explosives Disposal Unit and live entertainment.

The line up to the barbecue in front of the police headquarters building was large even when people had to desperately hold onto their napkins.
