Rough road forces James Smith school to close

There are no classes Thursday and Friday on the James Smith First Nation near Kinistino because of poor road conditions caused by recent rain.
The band decided to close Bernard Constant School because it had become too dangerous for busses.
“This year is really, really bad,” said Tammy Sanderson, a band office worker.
“They’ve always been soft. Well, the school road has always been soft like that but not as bad as it is this year.”
Aside from the school road, deep ruts have formed on at least three other roads, Sanderson said.
“Ten to 15 meters long of deep ruts that are two to three feet deep.”
The bridge is also in poor condition and close to being washed out.
There is no word on when classes will resume.
