Residents in the Rural Municipality of Corman Park whose property weathered significant water damage as a result of heavy rainfall in the last few months, will be eligible to receive funding from the Provincial Disaster Assistance Program (PDAP).

“This is a program of last resort,” heard residents Wednesday evening at the RM’s municipality office in Saskatoon.

Residents can claim up to $240,000 for personal property, and $500,000 for small businesses.

The information session was attended by about 70 residents, including Sharmon Reddekopp whose seven acres of land, which normally yields about 20,000 pounds of Saskatoon berries, was inundated with rain water.

“It started about a month ago and it has just continually got worst,” said Reddekopp, who also owns about 60 acres of land, which she rents out to farmers for their cattle.

“Everything is underwater. Not only is it underwater, it is under mold and slime. Everything is black and it smells. There are salamanders, there are snails growing in the water between all of our trees. There’s stuff floating by you,” she said.

In order to qualify for a PDAP claim, the damage must have been sustained between May 5 and June 26 of this year.
