After being vandalized nearly two months ago, 70 headstones in a Regina cemetery will be repaired by four local monument companies.

Remco Memorials Ltd, Treasured Monuments, Western Memorials, and Young’s Memorials have volunteered to help repair the damages.

In a media release, Regina Mayor Pat Fiacco praised the companies for their help.

“It takes good people like these to help undo the thoughtless acts of the vandals who damaged the cemetery this spring,” said Fiacco.

According to the release, the City of Regina contacted the four companies for their assistance who all agreed to work as a team to repair the damage.

Most of the headstones in the cemetery were laid between 1898 to 1971.

The release goes on to state that because the monuments were so old, it was difficult to notify the families whom the headstones belonged to, which is why the city commissioned the companies' help.

The repair work will beging later this summer.
