RCMP remember fallen officers
The Royal Canadian Mounted Police honoured two of their fallen members at the National Memorial Service in Regina on Sunday. The service and Memorial Parade was held in Sleigh Square at the RCMP Academy, "Depot" Division in the morning.
Two names were added to the Cenotaph, the Honour Roll, and the Memorial Wall Plaques this year. They were David John Brolin and Derek Pineo. The additions brings the total number of fallen members to 230.
Brolin died on January 17, 2012 after a helicopter accident. He was training with the Emergency Response Team near Chilliwack, British Columbia at the time.
Constable Derek William Henry Pineo was killed in a collision with a Moose on July 20, 2012. Pineo was serving in the Wilke Detatchment, and had been a member of the RCMP for under five years. He was driving in his cruiser along Highway 14 when the collision happened. The 38-year-old constable was the father of three children.
