The Prince Albert Youth Residence hit capacity, sending the kids who couldn't fit in the remand facility to Regina.
Judy Orthner, with the Ministry of Corrections, Public Safety and Policing, says every few months one of the provincial remand facilities fills up.
“Our remand unit in Prince Albert is 12 beds,” said Orthner.
“You can imagine that just isn’t large enough to handle the capacity that we need.”
Usually the youth are sent to Saskatoon or North Battleford.
Orthner says it is unusual to send them all the way to Regina because their court appearances are all in Prince Albert.
