The Regina Fire Department considersthe house fire on Retallack and 8th Street to be suspicious, but they say no one was home when it happened.

The call came in just after 3:30 a.m. and the fire was still burning almost an hour later.

Deputy Fire Chief, Gerard Kay says flames were shooting out the windows and roof when fire crews got there.

"There was nobody in the house itself, which lends more to a suspicious fire," he explained.

Crews weren't able to fight the blaze from inside the house because it was too intense. Firefighters eventually put out the blaze and left the scene around just after 7:00 a.m.

There is no word on an official cause of the fire but investigators did find a gas can in the yard beside the house.

The people living in the house next door were evacuated until crews got the blaze under control.

A man who lives across the street says he didn't see or hear anything until he woke up to see fire trucks outside.

The neighbour who didn't want to be identified, told News Talk Radio that it looked like somebody torched it. He also says for the past three months he has heard a lot of fighting and female voices yelling from inside the house. He also said he saw police go to the house in question quite a lot in the months before the fire.
