Montreal Lake RCMP investigating homicide

Montreal Lake RCMP are seeking public assistance in a homicide investigation after a man died from head injuries on July 30.

The incident began on July 28 at around 6 a.m., when medical staff responded to 45-year-old Norman Casey Stamp, who was lying unconscious on the side of a road in the Montreal Lake community.

Crews found he had sustained injuries to his head from what appeared to be an assault.

He was treated on-scene, then at a local clinic before being transferred to Saskatoon's Royal University Hospital where he died of his injuries on July 30.

The RCMP's Major Crime Unit in conjunction with Waskesiu Lake RCMP, Montreal Lake RCMP and the Prince Albert Police Service's Investigation Unit are investigating the incident.

Police have since arrested a man in relation to the crime, but are continuing to ask the public for help.

Leo Jackson Smith, 18, of the Montreal Lake Cree Nation is charged with second-degree murder. He remains in custody.
