Messages of hope for the future
The shelves are filled at the Saskatoon Food Bank and Learning Centre after a strong Christmas campaign.
The final numbers from the season have been tallied and with a doubling donation from Potash Corp. the food bank received $2 million.
That was revealed today, along with the unveiling of new mural mounted to the front wall of the centre.
It's titled Hopes and Dreams and has powerful quote from those who are involved with the food bank.
"So we talked to people who use the food bank, we talked to staff, we talked to volunteers and asked them to give us an idea of what they hope for in 2012," said Laurie O'Connor, the food bank's acting CEO.
One message reads, "I would like to see an end to poverty and to have a prosperous city that everyone can respect and enjoy."
While another hopes for, "Honesty, equality and justice."
Keeping in line with the hope of equality, O'Connor said, the money received as donations will be shared with food banks around the province.
