Major Regina condo development still in motion
Capital Pointe, Regina’s massive hotel and condo project that's been delayed for nearly a full year, is still in motion but some buyers are upset over the long wait.
Demolition is set to begin next week at the site of the old Plains Hotel to make room for the Capital Pointe development on the corner of Albert Street and Victoria Avenue.
Ontario's Bright Star is one of the developers behind the project that was delayed because of hazardous materials in the building, as well as legal proceedings surrounding a joint venture agreement.
Bright Star's Greg Black admits that some people who paid for a condo aren't impressed with the delays.
Some have even asked for their deposits back.
“A lot of people are very concerned, obviously, about the delays. We have been trying to communicate regularly with the purchasers and we anticipate that we will sit down face-to-face with the people,” said Black.
He insists that, despite the delays, the project is still on schedule.
“We’ll be ready for occupancy two years from now in the summer of 2013,” said Black.
