The John Arcand Fiddle Fest is turning 15 this year and to celebrate, the four day fair will feature a handful of new workshops, including an increased number of classes in Métis beading and finger weaving.

Thanks to popular demand, this year's boot stomping celebration, which kicks off Thursday, will offer four classes lead by instructors from the Gabriel Dumont Institute, said Vick Arcand, administrative director of the festival.

Last year, the festival, which takes place on the Windy Acres Vacation Farm, located approximately seven kilometers southwest of Saskatoon, only offered two classes but they quickly filled up, explained Arcand.

The classes are very popular with the moms, she said. "It's intrigue, curiosity and people who just want to learn."

Arcand said the classes are two hours long, have a maximum capacity of 12 people and will cost participants $10.

"You're going to get all your beads and all your wool," said Arcand. "So everyone gets a little kit."

General admission is $50 for the weekend or $20 per day. Children 12 and under are free with a parent or guardian.
