Huskies Football team secures post-season berth

The U of S Huskies punched their ticket to the Canada West playoffs with a 27-10 win over the Alberta Golden Bears in Edmonton on Saturday.

The Huskies blew open a tight game with two second quarter touchddowns. Shane Buchanan broke a 3-3 tie with a nine-yard touchdown catch. The Huskies took a 17-3 lead later in the quarter when Charlie Power hauled in a 12-yard pass from Huskies quarterback Chase Bradshaw.

The Golden Bears within a touchdown late in the first half when Dillon Prince caught a 10-yard TD pass from Curtis Dell to cut Saskatchewan's lead to 17-10.

The Huskies held the Bears to no points in the second half of the football game. U of S defensive back Bryce McCall tied a CIS record with his twenty-first career interception to stop a Bears' third quarter drive. Huskies receiver Kit Hillis put the game out of reach with a 26-yard TD catch in the fourth.

Huskies quarterback Chase Bradshaw was 17 of 28 on the day for 230 yards, with three touchdown passes and one interception.

The Huskies currently hold four wins and three losses and with this win have earned a Canada West playoff spot.

The Dogs host UBC in their final regular season game on October 26 at 7 p.m., at Griffiths Stadium.
