The Saskatoon Hilltops overcame a shaky start to down the Regina Thunder 24-9 at Gordie Howe Bowl on Saturday night.

The visitors jumped out to an early 9-3 lead thanks in part to a 29-yard pass from Landon Bessell to Mitchell Thompson in the first quarter. A dropped pass and botched field goal attempt hindered the Hilltops early in the game. The home side did jump out to the lead in the second quarter when Graham Unruh hauled in a 25-yard touchdown pass from Matt Harder to give Saskatoon a 10-9 lead at the half. The Hilltops defense held Regina pointless in the second half, while the offense scored two more touchdowns. Tom Shockey scored on a one yard run in the third quarter to give Saskatoon a 17-9 lead. In the fourth quarter, Kyle McGinnis rounded out the scoring with a 27 yard touchdown catch from Matt Karpinka who replaced an injured Matt Harder.

Mike Waldron was the defensive star for the Hilltops finishing with 6 tackles and one forced fumble.

The 3 and 1 Hilltops host the Winnipeg Rifles on Sunday Sept 16th at 1:00 at Gordie Howe Bowl.
