Henry Dayday bows out of mayoral race
Former mayor Henry Dayday announced Wednesday afternoon that he will not be running for mayor this fall.
Dayday, who held the position from 1988-2000, said he made the decision after Tom Wolf announced his candidacy earlier this week.
“I’m interested in the city having a change in leadership,” he said. And with three candidates in the mix, there is a concern that Mayor Don Atchison will win again, Dayday told reporters.
Dayday said he will be supporting Wolf, the 47-year-old research scientist, who he said shares many of the same ideas as him.
“He sounds like a very good candidate.”
The municipal election is scheduled for Oct. 24.
Atchison, who is seeking his fourth term as mayor, will be holding a press conference Wednesday afternoon where he is expected to confirm his bid for reelection.
