German man, 71, drowns at Last Mountain Lake
For the second time in a month, someone has drowned in Last Mountain Lake, which is northwest of Regina.
Three men—all family members-- were on a 12-foot boat on Monday when it flipped at about 6 p.m.
Sgt. Craig Cleary with the Lumsden RCMP says the three men ventured out on what was a very windy evening.
“The water was choppy and rough and that caused the boat to overturn and sink,” he said.
Just 20 feet from the shore, two of the men managed to swim to safety. The third man, Johan Lebert, wasn’t wearing a life jacket. The 71-year-old went under the water for a couple of minutes. A person on shore jumped in and pulled him out but they couldn’t revive him.
Cleary said Lebert was from Wort, Germany.
The investigation is ongoing.
