An open space in a high-traffic area of Saskatoon will soon be filled.

Freedom Functional Fitness, an organic health and wellness centre, will fill the void at the corner of Idylwyld and 20th Street.

"There's are no machines, it's all resistance training, boot camp style workouts," said Chandra Groves, the general manager .

"We're two blocks from river landing, one block from the farmer's market and we've got free parking."

The centre will be running year-round indoor boot camps with a focus on family and community.

"Our goal is to provide a welcoming, motivating, inspiring experience for all of our members to live healthy lives," said Groves.

That area of the city has been undergoing revitalization and Freedom Functional Fitness is expected to fit right in.

"There's a lot of synergy starting to happen both with the type of activity that will be in that site, the kinds of people it will be attracting and the health and wellness model that they're following," said Randy Pshebylo, executive director of the Riversdale business improvement district.

"Now people are not just coming down to get in and out of the car, they're parking and walking and shopping -- that's the whole focus that we have."

He hopes it will bring more foot traffic into the area.

"People will take a second look as they drive by and the next step is to park the car or get off the bus, then come in and start to visit more of the neighbourhood," he said.

Freedom Functional Fitness is expected to open up late this month.
