Darian Durant is fine; team dealing with a few other minor injuries and illness'
The Roughriders returned to practice Wednesday after their 52-0 destruction of the Winnipeg Blue Bombers in the Labour Day Classic.
Heading into the work out there was one question on the minds of Rider Nation, how is quarterback Darian Durant feeling?
"If you just ask me, it's just a strained neck, I'm good to go," said Durant.
Durant was able to get through the entire practice without showing any ill-effects of that hit he took on Sunday, adding after practice that he will be playing in this Sunday's Banjo Bowl in Winnipeg. Something that came as a relief to head coach Corey Chamblin.
"Very relieved, he's our starting quarterback," said Chamblin. "Like I told him during the game, he said 'coach if I needed to I can keep going', but I said, 'no you've done enough'."
Thus giving them a look at Drew Willy and even J.T. O'Sullivan for the rest of the blow out. Unfortunately for the Riders, the injury bug doesn't end with Durant, the good news is no one seems to be seriously hurt.
Willy himself has an injured left wrist, and he wasn't really catching any ball with it on Wednesday, opting to knock most of them down instead, but Chamblin said he should be fine.
The most notable player missing from practice Wednesday was receiver Weston Dressler.
"Dressler just has a contusion on his arm," said Chamblin. "Right now, just want to rest him to get the swelling out of that, he should be able to play."
Defensive back Woodny Turenne was also absent from practice with the same injury that kept him out of the game on Sunday.
The team has been dealing with an illness that has run through the locker room a little bit lately. Defensive back Eddie Russ was kept at home today to try and keep it from spreading further, defensive lineman Mick Williams was also at home sick. It's not known if this is his second time being sick, or it he got sick again over the last couple of days after missing time last week as well.
Offensive lineman Ben Heenan was out there a little bit on Wednesday working with the offensive line a little bit, but he wasn't wearing any pads or taking part in any of the team drills. That is a step up from last week when he did nothing, and he had to swear sunglasses from his suspected, but not officially confirmed, concussion.
