City of Regina proposes non-profit for Evraz Place
Regina's city council could be taking over the group that runs Evraz Place.
City staff is recommending council approve a new structure for Regina Exhibition Association Limited (REAL). That's the member-group that organizes and runs WHL hockey, trade shows, and the annual exhibition on the city-owned Evraz Place land.
City administration contends that the current way of running things is outdated. It's proposing REAL become a city-owned non-profit corporation. Their argument is that it would be more transparent and accountable that way.
The City has also recently suggested that REAL would be a good operator for the new stadium it hopes to build on the Evraz land. A recent funding proposal document suggested absorbing REAL would make that transition easier.
