Cause of Saskatoon church fire deemed arson
Saskatoon fire investigators have determined Monday's blaze at Faith Baptist
Church was deliberately started after finding accelerants, such as gas or
lighter fluid, in various parts of the building.
"There was areas in the
basement, as well as on the main floor and up into the second floor that did
have trails, or accelerants," said Dan Paulsen, Assistant Fire Chief with Fire
and Protective Services.
He said a building inspection will determine
whether the Munroe Avenue church, where damages have totaled $500,000, will ever
be usable.
Meanwhile, the congregation met last night to discuss a
temporary location.
They now have 12 spaces to choose from, a decision
Pastor Steve Fish said will likely be made later today.
Anyone with
information about the arson is asked to call the Saskatoon Police Service or
Crime Stoppers.
