Animals likely behind Regina power outage

A large section of South-Central Regina was without power for about two hours Monday night, probably because of damage done by some critters.

A Lightning Arrester was damaged.  SaskPower explained it's a device that prevents lightning from doing damage to power lines.

But lightning didn't cause the problem - animals did.  SaskPower suspects it was likely birds or squirrels that damaged the device, knocking out power.

SaskPower said around 6 p.m., power went out in the Cathedral, Riverside and Lakeview areas.  It took some time for the provider to track down the cause of the outage.

The outage backed up traffic on Albert Street and Lewvan Drive during rush hour.  All traffic lights were out, turning intersections into four-way stops.
