There were some tense moments for police arresting a suspect wanted in connection to a shooting near Rama. It happened after a farmer was shot in the small community located along Highway five, near Wadena. Shortly after the the 47 year old man was shot, Mounties were warned the suspect vehicle might be headed their way. When it arrived, police had guns drawn. The suspect was ordered out of the vehicle. Sergeant Carol Raymond describes the situation as a high risk take down. But she says the arrest was made without incident.
"The suspect was placed in cuffs. A full search was done of the vehicle where we did recover two riffles, two long barreled weapons," said Raymond.
While a suspect is in custody, Raymond says much more needs to be determined before charges can be laid.
"There are skilled interviewers that are going to be asked to attend, and ensure we collect the evidence that's going to be acceptable for the courts," added Raymond.
The gunshot wound left the farmer with serious injuries. But he went through surgery today, and he is expected to recover.
