Members of the FSIN have David Ahenakew in their prayers.
The Federation's former Chief is dying of cancer and it's reported that he could pass at any minute.
Ahenakew might be best known for his infamous remarks about jews to a reporter eight years ago, in which he referred to the group as a "disease."
Despite a respectable career, one expert believes that when Ahenakew does die it will take awhile for people to look past those comments.
"In the long run, his legacy of what he did in his earlier years will come through," explains Dr. Robert Innes, the Acting Head of the Native Studies Department at the University of Saskatchewan. "But it will take awhile before that happens."
Innes says Ahenakew commanded tremendous respect, even when he was not in power.
