Are more rural doctors needed in Saskatchewan is a question the Opposition is asking in the Legislature. The NDP feels the government is failing to address the issue.
Health Minister Don McMorris acknowledges the problem, but maintains there are solutions being used. He contends that government wants to make sure the communities impacted "receive services through an itinerant doctor or a nurse practioner."
McMorris points to the new doctor recruitment agency but the NDP's Judy Junor wonders whether that will achieve results, "this is just another way of the government being able to hide [from the problem]."
Doctor training seats have been increased but it takes seven years before a student graduates.
