No jail for Weyburn woman who put baby's body in garbage
A woman who pleaded guilty to putting the body of her newborn into the garbage was sentenced today in Weyburn Court of Queen's Bench.
Angela Vermeulen was given a 60 day conditional sentence and 18 months probation.
Among those conditions include electronic monitoring, 50 hours of community service and if she becomes pregnant she must immediately report it to her supervisor.
The 33-year-old was initially facing a second charge of offering an indignity to human remains, but that was later withdrawn by the Crown.
In May 2010, police extensively searched Weyburn's landfill after being tipped off that the body of an infant had been put in the garbage of a home. The child's body was never recovered.
