Plenty of space at exhibition grounds for new stadium
The folks at the exhibition grounds are getting ready to share the space.
The new stadium will be going up at Evraz Place in the same spot used by events like the Queen City Ex, Agribition, and the Farm Progress Show.
"There's a lot of space on our site," said Neil Donnelly, VP of marketing, "we have 102 acres here."
Donnelly admitted they expect growing pains through construction. Donnelly says their big events will run as normal, but there will be an impact while it is being built.
"Truck parking and storage spaces and potentially some general public parking areas that will be impacted during this process," he explained.
As of Monday afternoon, Donnelly said the exact spot of the land for the stadium hadn't been finalized. Once the management knows which space is for the new facility, they'll have a better idea of how events will work around it. Donnelly expects the location for the stadium to be finalized in about a month.
While we wait for the blueprints, there are a few more details from the mayor about what the stadium will look like.
Many people who support the stadium project as a whole are not happy about the fact that it's not going to be built with a roof. Instead the plan is to design it so a roof can be added later.
Mayor Pat Fiacco say the facility will have a partial roof to keep most fans dry at rainy games.
"Essentially wherever you are in the facility you've got a roof over your head. The only portion of the stadium that's open is actually the area that covers the field," he explained.
