Wide receiver training camp battle one to watch
You could say it's a battle of opposites. With Roughriders full training camp now on the horizon, our attention turns to the positional battles.
Even though Rob Bagg, Chris Getzlaf and Weston Dressler are basically set in stone, it will still be interesting to see who lines up behind them on the depth chart.
That battle on the field will take place between, among others, two men who bring very different things to the table. Justin Harper joins the team after missing last season, previously playing for the Baltimore Ravens. Harper is the big man in camp, listed at six-foot-four and and 213 pounds.
"I gotta be able to work my technique more because I'm not used to running downhill," said Harper. "I have to use it (my size) as an advantage because, it was one of those things, I was a big receiver but really wasn't using it the way I should."
Even though he spent sometime in the NFL, Harper says that's behind him now, and he's fully focused on playing in the CFL. If Harper is the big man, Sinorice Moss would be the opposite.
Moss joins the Riders having spent time with the New York Giants last year. He's listed at only five-foot-eight, making him one of the shortest on the team.
"Doing some research, I seen some smaller guys, smaller receivers have some success in this league," said Moss "I feel that I can come here and learn the system and get acclimated and make some plays."
He doesn't need to look far for inspiration, as Dressler is only five-foot-seven himself.
Moss does admit however, that playing in the NFL is still a dream of his.
