Rough is an understatement when it comes to describing Highway 22.

Chelsea Manz has a better description of the section of highway between Southey and Earl Grey.

“The highway is just a gravel, dilapidated road with soft spots about every kilometre,” she said.

Minister of Highways and Infrastructure Jim Reiter says the government knows it’s a problem.

“The concerns are very valid that the highway is not in good shape at all. The problem that we have in the big picture, of course, is that we have a massive highways infrastructure deficit. We’ve got a lot of bad highways around the province.”

Nearly a decade ago, it was named part of the “fearsome five”-- one of the worst five highways in the province. Manz says little has changed since then.

“If we were to see a file built on Highway 22, I can’t imagine how many complaints are put into there. We’ve been told over and over and over to refer to the five-year plan.”

Highway 22 was part of a five-year plan the government implemented when elected. But when asked if that meant the road will be fixed by this time next year, Reiter couldn't say.

For now, Reiter says crews will patch the holes and keep up maintenance until the road can be properly repaired.

But that’s not good enough Manz and others whose cars are falling apart on that road.

Their demanding the province paves it completely.
