    Sales increase again after a tough 2009

    After a rough last year, PotashCorp seems to be making a rebound. 

    The company reported earnings of $472 million dollars this quarter.  In fact sales have doubled since this time last year from $186.2 million

    PotashCorp's Bill Johnson says it's a sign the market is strengthening.

    "Generally the market is getting to a point where it will re-stock and people will start to develop a little more confidence," Johnson explained.

    The Saskatchewan based company is the largest potash producer in the world.

    Playing dead not the best option

    Playing dead during a bear attack may have saved a woman's life in Yellowstone National Park.  But one conservation officer says if that happened in Saskatchewan, the woman would be dead.

    Sask Environment's Bonnie Green says we only have Black Bears in the province. 

    "If an attack does occur and no escape is possible, you should defend yourself by any means possible. We do not suggest playing dead for Black Bears," said Green. 

  • Emergency Telemarketing Scam Targets Grandparents

    Amounts requested top $4,000

    It might seem like an emergency phone call from a niece, nephew or grandchild. But, it could be part of a scam targeting grandparents and elderly people.

    The caller will pose as younger relative, or in other cases as a lawyer or doctor calling on a relative's behalf. Often the excuses used are car accidents, being arrested or serious injury.

    No one in Regina has reported falling victim yet, but amounts requested range from $1,800 to more than $4,000.

    The cereal featuring Saskatchewan Roughrider Andy Fantuz on the box is being sold today.

    At the CO-OP on Quance Street, store manager Lowen Buchen says people were lining up 45 minutes before the store opened to get their hands on the limited edition cereal.  Some even drove here from out of province.  The cereal is selling like hot cakes.  

    "1500 packages altogether so far.  We don't have much left.  We have a few left, but they're selling really fast.'

  • Car Vandalism in Regina's Northwest

    Eleven driver's side mirrors smashed or knocked off

    Eleven vehicles in northwest Regina are either missing or sporting a damaged driver's side mirror after vandalism over the last two nights.

    Elizabeth Popowich with Regina Police says the incidents have taken place late at night or very early in the morning. 

    "It certainly occurred to us that they may be related. They may be happening in rapid succession," she says.

    Callers promise savings with an expensive device

    It's an ongoing scam that could cost power customers hundreds of dollars.

    The person calls posing as a representative of the federal government or SaskPower. They are trying to sell users a device they claim will reduce power consumption and benefit the environment. Customers have to pay cash up front -- anywhere from $100 to $600, depending on the call.
