Every week I will give you my thoughts on who the best teams and players are in the CFL. As always, I'd love to get some of your top players of the week in the CFL.

Team Power Rankings

1. Saskatchewan Roughriders: They beat the defending champion Montreal Alouettes in a shootout that may go down as the best CFL game all year and it was the first one. Quarterback Darian Durant threw for five touchdowns and added one on the ground and they persevered after an ugly start to the game.

2. Montreal Alouettes: The Als could be number one in the power rankings. The only problem is they lost the lead and lost overtime against the Roughriders but they look like the Eastern power once again, the way Calvillo and Co. came out of the gate.

3. Winnipeg Blue Bombers: 49 points for the start of the 2010 season for Paul LaPolice's crew. Impressive. The Bombers were led by Buck Pierce, and although I think the injury bug will get him before the seasons out, I've always thought Buck had the potential to be a solid #1 quarterback in the league. The Bombers defense gave up 14 points in the fourth quarter but completely shut down Hamilton, another good debut for Kavis Reed as defensive coordinator.

4. B.C. Lions: The Lions held Ricky Ray's Eskimos to just 10 points and caused key turnovers on the road to get off to a 1-0 start. Although they needed to rely on Paul McCallum's leg for 18 of their 25 points, at least Casey Printers was getting his team into field goal position. Defensively the Lions are still a question mark in my mind because I still think the Eskimos are lacking along the offensive line and without Kelly Campbell, looked depleted in the receiving corps.

5. Calgary Stampeders: I so want to drop them down for needing 16 points in the fourth quarter to beat Toronto on home but the other three were worse. I have nothing good to say about the Stampeders performance other to say they won.

6. Hamilton Tiger-Cats: Thank goodness for 14 points from Marcus Thigpen or their loss to Winnipeg would have looked even worse! Kevin Glenn struggled and their run game was invisible. I liked that the Tabbies fought back to come within a score of tying the game but they faltered in the fourth quarter trying to contain Winnipeg's run game and Buck Pierce's run game. I don't expect Hamilton to be down here for very long.

7. Edmonton Eskimos: They only scored 10 points but they were in position to score three other times that resulted in zero points. Ricky Ray looks like he loves having Kelly Campbell back in the lineup. Too bad Campbell missed some time with an injury. There defense bent but did not break, giving up only one touchdown and six field goals. That is both good and bad news. They stopped B.C. from finding the end zone but didn't create timely turnovers like the Lions "D" did to keep the Leos off the scoreboard.

8. Toronto Argonauts: 16 points, 207 yards of offense but at least their defense looked pretty decent against Calgary. I still don't think Cleo Lemon is the right choice at quarterback but I'm not at practice every day watching the Argos and that's where he won the job. And if you take away their one scoring drive of 85 yards, that's just 122 yards of offence the rest of the game.

Player Power Rankings

1. Darian Durant, Saskatchewan: Durant's line on Thursday is tremendous and he is a shoe-in for CFL Offensive Player of the Week. I already mentioned his six touchdowns (5 passing, one rushing) but how about a 475 yard passing performance to go along with it. Just a note he had four touchdowns and over 400 yards throwing before overtime.

2. Anthony Calvillo, Montreal: Two quarterbacks going throw for throw was tremendous to watch on Canada Day and they deserve to be 1-2 in the power rankings after week one.

3. Buck Pierce, Winnipeg: Pierce was a beast against Hamilton as he threw, ran and willed his Bombers to victory over their division rival. Over 80 rushing yards added to just under 300 yards passing is a great debut for the new Bomber pivot.

4. Jamal Robertson, B.C.: Robertson was the single reason Casey Printers was able to move the ball. The Lions were able to slow down the Eskimos defense due to Robertson's threat out of the back field. (Still can't believe the Argo's let this one go)

5. Terrance Edwards, Winnipeg: The big-play receiver for the Bombers certainly showed up for Winnipeg. Nearly breaking the 200 yard mark with 191 yards and two touchdowns, one of which a pass and catch for 90 yards.

6. Weston Dressler, Sask.: The Riders have three Mr. Reliables in their receiving corps and Dressler played that role in Week One. 10 catches and 154 yards plus the game winning score for the Riders star.

7. Marcus Thigpen, Hamilton: Likely the special teams player of the week with a kick return and missed field goal return for scores. What a pick up for the Tabbies after the Riders released him after training camp.

8. Phillip Hunt, Winnipeg: The second year Bomber provided a constant push off the end and came away with three tackles, two sacks and forced fumble against Hamilton.

9. Kerry Watkins, Montreal: Watkins ate up the Roughriders secondary early on. He had two big play touchdowns because of precise and downright mean routes that left defenders in their wake.

10. Joe Lobendahn, Winnipeg: I know, I know, how do four Bombers get on this list in one week? But hey, find two better defenders in Week One. Lobendahn finished his night with eight tackles and two sacks. If he stays healthy, there is no problem in the middle of the Bombers defense. Lobendahn will like be Defensive Player of the Week.

Hope you enjoyed the first edition and can't wait to hear who you think should have made the list over others.
