Though there has been no official word on Eric Tillman's future, he's not coming back - he can't. There would be too much public outcry and too much of a public relations nightmare for the team.
For Tillman, take into consideration he and his wife want to avoid any verbal harassment that will be directed their way if they continue to make Regina home, especially to protect their two children. Someone WILL shout, yell, spew something towards he or his wife in public. It happens.
So my prediction is the release from the Roughriders in the next 24 hours will read something like this. The Saskatchewan Roughriders Board of Directors, Chairman Rob Pletch, CEO and President Jim Hopson along with General Manager Eric Tillman have decided, in the best interest of the team and Mr. Tillman, the two sides part company. The Roughriders thank Tillman for the time and effort he has given the team and province to make the Roughriders one of the top teams in the league both on and off the field. The Roughriders will now begin the process of hiring a new VP of Football Operations and General Manager.
Again - that's a prediction and shows you why I'm in broadcasting and not in the business of writing news releases. But you get the point.
As for the fans, you'll have to again be patient. Eric Tillman did a great job building this team and now it's up to the Board and Jim Hopson to find the next best person and they'll have a good pool to choose from because coming to the Saskatchewan Roughriders would be a job people want. The team is successful; there is a good corps of young players and a 27-year old quarterback who had a breakout season. Now the team has to make a good hire, and this is where you should that Jim Hopson will do his job well, again.

tillman plus
yes everyone gets a second chance, he has gotten his. he is not in jail and if he behaves he will have no record. that is his second chance. if the riders were to keep him the fans they lose will make their call based on morals, it would be hard to get them back. those they lose if he is gone will be back with a winning season. the plus part is for you jamie. it is wrt racing. i extend to you an open invitation to pilot on of my cars on a hot summer night at autoclearingmotorspeedway to see if drives are athletes or not.
Sad
You are correct. He will leave. Who would stay in a province where when you plea guilty, apologize to the province and the victim, the victim accepts the apology and asks that he does not lose his job and still get railroaded out of town? This whole case has had a stench to it from the beginning.I know the football experts in this province all say that Taman is the next GM. Huge mistake, they might as well hire Al Ford back and watch him destroy everything ET has done. Joe Womack is the next GM. Besides, who would want to come to Regina now? Where an individual can apologize and still get railroaded out of town by people who are perfect law abiding citizens.
Yeah, makes no sense. Just
Yeah, makes no sense. Just because he broke both the law and the riders rules of conduct does not mean anything.
Well said. I didn't hear
Well said. I didn't hear anyone complaining when Armstead came back even though his recent actions violated this supposed code of conduct.
Red's comment
Red: Tillman is NOT getting railroaded...HE PLED GUILTY. He did the crime, he must pay the crime. I don't want him to be sent away, but the girl's needs need to come before him. The victim's rights must come before the guilty person's rights.
Victims rights!!
Red your talking out of the side of your mouth, to but it politically correctly, the victims rights arent being violated. She and her family have forgiven him publicly. So the only rights that are being violated are the rider fans. I dont agree with what he did or draggin it on but to spout about victims rights try lots of other situations where people are being killed, lives destroyed but the real criminals serve minute sentences then get out to do it again. Tillman is not a criminal in the real sense just a middle aged man that lost his mind for a split second and is getting punished to a extended degree.
Jamie: I personally think he
Jamie: I personally think he should be allowed to continue as GM of the Riders. I don't think the case ever should have gone to trial. As for the Riders, who would be candidates to replace him if he is forced to leave? Please don't say Mr Taman!!!
Except it did go to trial
Except it did go to trial and he did plead guilty. So ship him out.
Amen!
Amen!
public schmublic
they have to do what's best for the team, not the citizens, (and yes, they are different).
That would be to hire the best gm in the entire league to pilot this team, and that's tillman...... who we already have. Why send him to the opposition? you know he'll work in this league again, we gotta keep him here. thats the best BUSINESS decision for the club.
No doubt about it, the Argos
No doubt about it, the Argos will sign Tillman the second he comes available. They are practically praying he becomes available.
Eric Tillman
I am not telling Eric Tillman's story. I am telling a story of society and lynch mob mentalities. Also Jamie, I like you but stop saying "going forward"!!!! Every manager at work says that every ten minutes. Was there a seminar orsomething!
I was listening to Drew Remenda's show Tuesday night while driving to the WJC final. Drew and a sycophantic listener were in full 'lynch mob' mode while discussing Tillman's future. I felt ill. There is a tremendous difference between the assurance of accountability and the ugliness of testosterone driven, vengeful thinking. If we are to be such a damning society, prepare for the light of scrutiny to shine on all of us, it would only be right.
If the Riders elect to go on without Eric Tillman, then to avoid being devout, ugly hypocrits - the Riders need to go further. With a fine tooth comb, Hopson needs to first consider anyone, inlcuding himself, who has ever contributed enabling resources to the drug trade to be in violation of the code of conduct. Maybe they only bought weed, but that money they used has a blood trail attached to it, guaranteed. All who have participated in the drug trade, even as a customer, need to be removed from the Riders. Let's consider drinking and driving. Most who do it are not caught. In fact, their drunken exploits become funny stories come Monday morning. The truth is that drinking and driving is a far worse offense than what Mr. Tillman comitted.
Drinking and driving leads to so much death every year in Saskatchewan. Drinking and driving is a scumbag making a decision to risk the lives of everyone he or she shares the road with. Drinking and driving puts life at risk. So, everyone in the Rider office who has ever had a .08 needs to be let go. If we are going to be holier than thou in Saskatchewan, let's go all ot. Let's do it honestly and contritely. If we are to pick and choose who we condemn and who gets a pass, then by all means let's scrap our system of laws altogether. Those who feel that way can convene tribunals when necessary and determine our fates. Hey, we wouldn't need court rooms anymore.
The act Mr.Tillman undertook while heavily influenced by powerful narcotics was wrong. Any given night in saskatoon you will see far worse aggressions and transgressions at any bar. Those lude acts are disgustingly celebrated in that realm. But, Mr. Tillman was in a position of trust and violated the welfare and security on a young girl. Because of that violation, the court system had to examine the case. The vicitim courageously stood her ground. In the end, she understood that this act is not reflective of Mr. Tillman's character. It was a mistake. The victim herself has adopted a stance of forgiveness. But the lynch mob seems oblivious and disregards the victims stance. Lynch mobs seldom communicate well.
Mr. Tillman has a strong history of honourability and contibution in every community he has been a part of. No one on this planet with an iota of credibility or the meagherest accumulation of brain cells would ever attribute this act to being in accord with the character of the man in question. This was a clear aberation due to mitigating circumstances. If we can't forgive, then weneed to carry on our lynch mob and clear a lot of people out of saskatchewan. I like to think that, like the victim, we have the capacitty to forgive. To consider a man's lifetime of honour and contribution. If we can't forgive, then we are lost.
You just asked about the family of the victim. You'renot listening man.
Eric Tillman
Jamie, I'mlistening to you tonight and I am shocked by the hypocrisy ofyou and Drew. You have pilloried Eric and degrade any contrary argument as being uninformed? Seriosuly? Do people actually believe you guys? Hey, I just hope you are consistent, Drew should be disugusted by Dany Heatly being in San Jose. he's not? There's a %^&*() surprise. Come on you guys. WTF!
Eric
You and Drew are discussing forgiveness right now. The victim forgives! Do you even care? You lump the arguments for Tillman in with the clown who made the comment about 16 year old girls! twisted. You guys have no perspective on this. Drew - why do we have the right to forgive? Its not about that - hey if you and Jamie want to be consistent you beter, you bloody well better hold everyone to the same standard from now on. If you don't, you have zip to stand on. Next drunk driver - you beter condemn him to the extremee as well, even if it is someone you know. Maybe your brother gets a DUI, doesn'tmatter - condemn that equally.
Both Drew and Jamie have
Both Drew and Jamie have lost my respect.
Eric Tillman
I agree, after hearing your program, I couldn't take it
anymore. I am mad as Heck. Talk about a pair of A holes. I
guess you feel you have to Railroad out Mr. Tillman because
you need to increase your ratings on your Talk Show.
Sure he pleaded guilty. Too Bad he can't remember what he did.
He didn't want to hurt his family's Baby Sitter or her family.
She Baby Sat for the Tillmans for Over a Year without
any problems. You never mentioned that. You never mentioned
that. Or if he was so out of it at the meeting that they sent
him home calling him loopy. Who let him Drive home? Mr. Tillman
said he can't remember the incident. But Jamie knows Eric
is Lying. Your right Jamie , You and Drew and other Media
"Lets Get Tillman" are doing a great job. You already mentioned
Brenan Tamin as his replacement. The guy from Winnipeg boy he has
won a lot of Grey Cups?
Because they don't think
Because they don't think breaking the law is cool?
Because they don't think teenage babysitters should be humped?
Grow up already. As if they even care if they have the respect of obsessive rednecks.
His actions were not proper.
His actions were not proper. Having said that, this is a business and the only thing dumber than keeping the 13th man slogan is firing Tillman.
Jamie is a Psychic!
I would place money on Jamie's prediction. Great job covering the Riders!
Really!
Jamie and Drew,
You guys are going off last night (Jan 7) about older guys who fantisize about 16 year old girls and basically saying that it is deviant behavior. Even though it is a social no-no, guys are still going to check out a "hot chick" (it is natural), geez look at Miley Cyrus and tell me she doesn't get your motor revving.
You have your blood.
Jamie and Drew, you have your blood. You have led the mob to the old barn, set it aflame and the villain died in glorious agony.
Now, why don't we form a posse and really clean up this town. Like you did with Mr. Tillman, we will pick and choose which information to focus on in order to fit best with our ambitious motivations. We won't let facts (heretofore known as 'little things') trouble us on our mission. In fact, we will outright challenge the veracity of anything that does not fit our assumptuions for with our massive intellects, anything that doesn't fit must be untrue. Hencely and surely. Ahhh, so easy to categorize when we make our own rules. Hooray for posses!
Nopw, what crimes shall we deem worthy of our malicious intentions. There are many far worse than what Mr. Tillman has done. .08, drug offenses, etc. I don't think property crimes are as bad but the posse can discuss this. Anyway, let's begin with the Riders and root out the other ne'er do wells. We'll ride over, throw a rope over a tree and take care of business. Let's get righteous. Late's take it all the way. Why stop with just one man's life?
Hannah Montana
This is beside the point but there are photo shoots involving Mylie Cyrus that were widely viewed and commented on. Brittney Spears had breats augmentation as a teen because she knew everyone would notice. Cast stones if you will but it is not uncommon for older men to notice fully developed female forms. Be holier than thou if you wish but I don't think you are being honest. When I was 15, I developed quickly and I noticed how everyone looked at me. As a female, you'll have a harder time being superior and smug with me when it comes to this issue.
This is all irrelevent as this offense happened while Eric was influenced by narcotics. The sitter had worked for Eric for over a year without so much as the slightest incident. This was not about lust. This was an influenced man being sophomoric. The medias blood lust is the real story here as far as I'm concerned.
Mr. Tillman
Having listened to the Tillman farewell on the awesome CJME talk radio,I must say that this guy is a self indulged piece of puke.Good riddance to him and I sincerely hope none of our sage Rider fans hold anything against the young lady he tried to push himself on to.
Thanks!
Tillman and the Media
Probably Tillman's resignation was inevitable (either offered or asked for). However, I agree with the last caller on your show Fri nite. The media pounced on this following the guilty plea like a cat after a mouse. And if the media were shocked that 60+% of fans were in favour of considering Tillman stay ..that's because these fans are mostly the people that sit back and say "let's get all the facts first" (let the board do their job). These are the fans that don't pretend to be experts on how people may behave while under the influence. Drew Remenda missed the point of why some are po'd with him. It's not that he stated the obvious that "Tillman should go". It's not even that he initially said he would have knocked Tillman's lights out as a father (we get that). It's that he
said "Tillman's story doesnt't cut it with me"
He indirectly called him a liar and maybe worse. I'm sure DR.Drew has seen many people act ridiculously under outside influences. Just go to a rider game and witness all the idiots who cross the line of decent behaviour.
As a longterm rider season ticket holder and a regular newstalk listner...I for one will be turning off the radio, tv and closing the sports page...should any such disaster happen again. I'm interested in the media as a reporters but not as a social commentators on this stuff.
Go Riders and All the Best to those who've been through this
Very very disappointed in
Very very disappointed in Jamie Nye and Drew Remenda.
