posted by Jamie Nye
May 31st, 2010

Rider fans have been receiving their season ticket packages this week and everybody is getting set for the 2010 season to begin and for the players it starts on Wednesday with the rookies getting their first taste of Rider Nation. There will likely be a hundred+ in the stands on Wednesday for the first of many workouts until the the final cuts are made after the June 20th pre-season game against the Calgary Stampeders.

The Week That Was

When you take holidays as a broadcaster/reporter, you know your week off will be a busy one and that came true this past week as the Riders and even Regina Pats made news.

So as I get back to the grind on Monday and prepare for the Riders rookie camp, here are my two cents on the week that was.

Golden Sidney's World Snub

The biggest question in hockey circles right now is whether or not Sidney Crosby should have accepted Mark Messier's invitation to the World Hockey Championships.

Sid said "no" and now many, including me, are saying he made the wrong decision. Then there's Szymon Szemberg, the International Ice Hockey Federation communications director, who took Crosby to task for being 22 and 'tired' after his season in the NHL. Szemberg goes on to say tired is a miner in Ukraine or a single mother working two jobs to feed her family.

Jets Coming Back, Saskatchewan Effect

The Winnipeg Jets coming back to the NHL are hot and heavy and just running around google today I found this.

Obviously a temporary design for a new look Jets logo done in 2005 by SyPhi Creations. But it looks awesome and would look even better on a jersey, of course, the colours would change with a blue home jersey, but, it's fantastic.

Taser the Streaker

It's one of the most annoying things about professional sport. The Streaker.

They ruin momentum of the game and when they are not fully clothed, they tend to ruin your appetite as well. I'm one sports fans who would rather see a police officer or security guard tackle these misfits (or better yet the players, especially of the football variety).

CFL Draft/Cherry Rips i-Desk

posted by Jamie Nye

The Saskatchewan Roughriders have gotten through a busy weekend with the CFL Draft.

My grade is a solid "A".

For Brendan Taman to have pulled off an A+ would have been picking up a few more picks heading into the weekend, not that they needed it but this draft was a deep one and to have zero picks between 8 and 33 in such a draft hurts the grade a fraction.
