Over the past 20 years, my basement has seen 6 or 7 major floods caused by heavy rains and sewage backups, so I feel somewhat qualified to offer some advice on dealing with water in your basement.

First, think prevention. The City of Saskatoon has great tips at  this website.

The Quint Development low income apartment building at Ave U. and 21st street. The fire has forced about 40 people out of their homes. Most had no insurance. If  you can donate money, a place to live, clothing or household goods, call Quint at 978-4041 or the Salvation Army at 242-6833.

So I was talking about the beautiful pelicans that visit our city each year, and wondering if the proposed development at the weir might affect them in anyway. A listener sent this video, thinking it might change my view on the big birds. He was right!!!

As 5000 barrels of oil continues to spew into the Gulf of Mexico every day, I think most people feel helpless to do anything about this environmental nightmare. Well, here is something you can do. Hair clippings are being collected, put into nylon stockings to be used as booms and sponges to help clean up the oil.
